How it's worked out
We divide the salary by 2,080 hours, which is 40 hours a week for 52 weeks, to get the hourly pay rate.
For a W-2 hire we add your burden, meaning the employer costs that sit on top of pay, such as payroll taxes and insurance. That gives the pay cost. A 1099 or corp-to-corp contractor carries no burden, so their pay cost is simply their pay.
The bill rate is the pay cost divided by one minus your margin. At a 28% margin, you keep 28 cents of every dollar you bill.
